In any case, I’ve implemented a fix to what I’m pretty sure the issue was, so you should be able to put any code you add to the comments inside PRE tags now like the highlighted instructions say and it should actually work.

The server configuration has been largely completed and the problem that was causing the site to crash every few hours has been found and remedied. The forums are now online again — so we should be up and running now faster than ever.

Thanks for bearing through all this maintenance stuff over the past month.

Enough of you have been visiting this site that our host has become unhappy with the resource utilization we’re causing on the server this site is hosted on. Consequently, they’ve moved this site to another server that is likely to have less performance until I can get a handle on the resource utilization. The end result is that the site will be slower for a period of time until I can remedy the issue.

The plan is that I will be installing a caching plugin in order to reduce the number of PHP and SQL queries the web site makes on the server. When this takes place, it is quite likely that some features of the site will break, or not update correctly. If you notice this happening, please leave a comment on this thread and let me know and I will try to fix it.

My apologies for the interruption, but it’s either fix it or take the site down… I’m going to go with fix it. :)

As promised, I’ve changed the site over to use threaded comments. This means it is now possible to reply to specific posts! You should find this new system quite intuitive, and it will make it easier for me to respond to individual posts.

This functionality is based off of a Wordpress plugin called Brian’s Threaded Comments. However, Brian’s threaded comments is somewhat buggy, and appears to be unsupported by the author. Consequently, I have taken the liberty of making some significant changes/improvements to the plugin. I have no doubt that there are still bugs abound. If you find any, please leave a response to this post and let me know what went wrong and what browser you are using.

I intend to release this version of the plugin to the Wordpress community at some point in the near future, but it still needs some cleaning up first.

In the 8 months this site has been in existence, we have had over 140,000 page views! I’d like to give special thanks to those of you who have taken the time to give feedback, catch typos, or helped to keep this site afloat financially (you know who you are). It is sincerely appreciated!

Sometime after Christmas or New Years, I intend to add threaded discussions to the site, which will give me the ability to better target responses to questions. I think it will help make this site even better than it is! For those of you who are regular visitors, I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

I am still working at converting the previous tutorials from the old-style to the new-style, and given that there are over 100 of them, it may take me a little while to get through all of them.

If you try to mouse-select the syntax-highlighted code and paste it into another document (or compiler), you will also get line numbers. Instead, use the “copy to clipboard” function at the top of the code snippet. This will place the code in your clipboard, and you can paste it into another document like normal.

If that doesn’t work for you, use “view plain”, which will show you the code without syntax highlighting and line numbers, and copy it from there in the normal manner.

I hope you find that this change brings some added value to your CPP experience.
