Site migration

Hey all,

In order to clean up the site infrastructure and address some security and spam issues, we’ve migrated the site to a new (faster) server, and essentially rebuilt the site from the ground up. Some of the plugins used to provide functionality (including the code syntax highlighter) weren’t compatible with the most recent versions . . . → Read More: Site migration

Site software updated 11/23

Hey all,

I updated the site software today, including the primary software and a bunch of plugins. So far everything seems to be working great but it’s very possible that something has gone awry somewhere.

If you discover anything that seems wonky, please leave a message on this thread and I’ll look into it.

This is why we can’t have nice things

As you may have noticed, the site has been down for the last 5 days. The good news is that we’re back up (obviously), and things should stay that way now that they’re resolved.

We experienced a massive site failure yesterday evening, with the database corrupted. Those of you familiar with the intricate workings of WordPress will know that the database holds everything — all the content, all the comments, all the configuration data. When the database goes, the site goes. Fortunately, the database is backed up on a . . . → Read More: Database Corruption / Site Issues

What Google giveth, Google taketh away…

There is no doubt in my mind that this site is growing. The meticulous Excel sheet I keep (because I am an Excel fanatic, and believe everything in life needs an Excel sheet and a linear forecast) easily proves it. The 10 day moving average of traffic for today is three times what it was . . . → Read More: What Google giveth, Google taketh away…
